SILENCE MAKES YOU AN ACCOMPLICE

A whistle blower, what comes to mind when you hear this, a whistle blower is more like someone who reports illegal activities and crimes that are happening in a community or a society. In as much as it is what we should do to ensure the safety of our community, it is right to speak out when we see bad things happening it is not always easy to be a whistle blower it takes a lot of strength courage and discipline to take up that act .

This is my entry for hive learners weekly contest edition 3. I have also considered being a whistle blower but I backed down to think about the risk that is involved in it, as a whistle blower the right thing to do is to report crime and illegal activities towards the life of the innocent victims and not watching them suffer . But at the end of the day how does it affect the whistle blower personally ,most times the whistle blower has a huge price to pay, they are exposed to danger and might lose their life. Their family might be threatened, a lot of things might go wrong, people might reject then or treat them badly because they exposed their secrets and their activities. At the end of the day it is hard to choose be a whistle blower knowing the advantages and disadvantages involved in it .

The question can everyone be a whistle blower? Should it be a generalized answer or should it be answered individually. In the society we live in a lot of people are under the protection of higher authorities and the government too, when they step into the office of the whistle blowers they have the protection against people who might want to harm them but not everyone has access to that protection. For those who don't have that protection what is their fate. We are not supposed to be living in a society where wrong doing is encouraged just because nobody wants to take up the job of a whistle blower. It shouldn't be a life threatening job but it should be a service to humanity saving the citizens from wrong doing which are perpetrated by the bad eggs in the society.

For whistle blowing to truly work the government has to put in precautionary measures to make sure that those who work in this office are properly protected, there should be confidentiality there should be a platform or a space where people can share information about crucial security matters in their community and they are protected the most not come out personally to say it so everybody knows who they are. How wonderful would it be to create an app where you can confidentially share life threatening issues and security alert without unnecessary publicity.

Have we ever thought about it that whistle blowers could also give out false security alert just because they want to implicate somebody who has wronged them in one way or the other ? That is very much possible and there should be punishable rules set aside for this particular reason so that anybody who gives false security alerts would be punished according to the law it will help enforce discipline and order within the whistle blowers.

Rounding up whistle-blowing is a very good initiative gearing towards protecting the life of citizens by exposing people who perpetuate crimes in the community, the government should also make sure that they take up the protection of those who take up the office of the whistle blowers very seriously to keep them safe .When truth is protected and justice is properly given it ensures that whistle blowing becomes more effective and proficient.
