Look, I never thought I would leave a comment in a long time, but your review has drawn me. I loved every part of this book, from Korede's weird sense of love to Ayoola's sense of beauty. It warped me into their world. But most of all, I felt drained because I understood clearly how distorted our different family dynamics are and how much one might be willing to give up for their family.
It hurt me that Korede was a pawn in it all, as she was used by her sister, abused by her father and misunderstood by her mother.
In all, Oyinkan Braithwaite is a literary genius. Thank you, @deraaa, for reminding me about such an awesome book.

Korede did evoke my sympathy, at some point I even found myself so angry on her behalf, especially when it came to that Tade (or whatever his name was) guy. Towards family, especially her sister, Korede's lack of esteem was really heartbreaking, and it was even more so as I, a reader, could understand everything she was feeling. Oyinkan is indeed a literary genius.
