Mr Dj to the rescue... inkwell fiction #219.
“I now pronounce you husband and wife. The groom may now kiss the bride” the officiating priest said as he concluded the wedding ceremony of Nike and Mikel. Their love indeed prevailed and here we were celebrating with them after five years of dating.
Mikel couldn't wait to swoop up his beautiful bride but he had no choice but to be patient and only do as he was told. The audience in attendance laughed at his desperation. They found it amusing while other married folks could relate. A sigh escaped my lips as I stared at the latest couple in town. As much as I was happy for them, my legs were itching to dance.
Yes, you can call me the life of the party because that's my personality. I was eagerly waiting for the reception to begin and the dancing proper to start. I came prepared in a wine coloured silk dress and gold wedges that are perfect for rocking the dance floor. I will give it to them hot…hot.
I was still lost in thought when someone shook me. “Hey, what's the matter? Why were you shaking me so vigorously just now?”
An annoyed Nike stood in front of me. Her hands akimbo as she looked like an angry mother hawk, waiting to chop my head off.
“You have the mouth to complain abi? I have been calling you for ages but only God knows where your consciousness travelled to. So I had to shake you to wake you up” she replied to me.
“I'm sorry, the latest bride in town.I was lost in my own world as I didn't want to disturb you and your hubby. So how was the kiss?” I asked her, giggling slightly but Nike was in no mood for jokes.
“Tessa, I need you to be serious. You are my bridesmaid and it is time to take photographs but here you are, lost in thought. I almost feared for the worst” Nike berated me.
“Alright, I apologise. It's my bad. Let's go take some photographs then” I said placating her as we both walked towards the photography section.
After taking lots of photographs with the bride and other relevant family members and relatives, the photo session came to an end and the reception kick started. The venue used for the wedding was the same venue for the reception. Slight changes were made to the sitting arrangements and some additional decorations were added.
The hall glowed beautiful with wine and gold decors which was Nike's chosen colour of the day. As her bridesmaid, I chose to dress in a full wine coloured dress paired with a gold coloured clutch purse and shoes. We were asked to wait a while In a room and get prepared while the Mc introduced guests.
Soon, the announcement was made for the bride and groom to enter the reception venue. I was energetic immediately the Mc finished calling on the couple because I knew that I and the groom's best man would usher them in with dancing and this was what I was good at.
Then I heard the mc say “Dj, hit it” and the music started playing but the vibe was lost on me as the song played by the DJ was slow music and not a danceable one. I spied the bestman and he too was wearing a not so happy look on his face. This Dj needed to be sacked.
How we managed to slow dance across the hall to the podium was a miracle because my mind was blank. After the couple were seated, the Mc began to call out the performances on the list of programs. I quickly signalled the best man and we went outside through the back door to talk.
“Who brought in that dumb Dj? How could he play slow music for couple entry? Omo, the guy dulled my vibe” I lamented to Thomas, Mikel's best man.
“Calm down Tessa. I have already sent for another Dj and he would be here in fifteen minutes. Don't worry your pretty head. Once he arrives, I'll alert the Mc to move up the couple dance, so that we can enjoy some good dance okay” Thomas replied to me.
“Now you are talking. No wonder you are Mikel's best man” I said as I gave him a high five. We went back into the hall and true to his words, a new guy came in with some heavy and better looking musical equipments. Thomas then walked up to the Mc and whispered something into his ear. The Mc then announced couple dance but first, they were to be ushered to the center by the best man and bridesmaid.
I was reluctant to stand as I didn't want to be disappointed but the new DJ quelled my worries by playing a well known danceable song that got everyone standing and vibing. I quickly dropped my purse and went to the center of the hall before fully coming alive on the dance floor. Thomas was right beside me but I gave him a run for his money.
The new DJ turned out to be the life of the party as he got both guests and the couple dancing happily to his music mix. I danced so much that I had to take off my shoes due to leg cramps. I had to find somewhere to sit and rest after all that dancing.
Thomas walked up to me and said “Tessa, you won't cease to amaze me. Your energy is just so contagious. Now I see why you were unhappy with the first DJ”
“Yes Thomas, anywhere Tessa is, there is bound to be fun especially when there is music” I said and we burst into laughter.
The Mc did a good job of keeping the guests comically entertained while the DJ spiced up the place with his good musical selections. The wedding reception finally came to a close and I assisted the couple with putting their gifts into the car trunk.
Thomas was assigned with driving the couple to their resort which had been booked for their honeymoon and I went home with Nike's parents to continue party after party.

The DJ wanted to kill your vibes but Thomas help you out. Thank you for sharing.
Yes ooo. It was the DJ brought by Thomas that saved the day.
Party girl Tessa!
Love those AI pics, someone is prompting well!
😂😂😂
Thanks boss boss
Good thing Tessa's insistence made things work out. It's the right attitude sometimes.
Yeah,thank you.
Awwww, I was literally smiling all through the read. Sincerely one of the most beautiful things about a wedding reception is the dance session. And what a dance without an active chief bridesmaid? I can imagine Tessa scattering the dance floor with her ‘hot’ vibes.
Tessa really killed it on the dance floor. She was indeed the life of the party 😁😁
Thanks for reading
Mc and the new d.j did well.
Yeah , they really did.
Thanks
Hehehe. I wonder why the first DJ wasn’t scrutinized before hiring him. Lol he had to disappoint you but glad the new DJ knew the roll and how things should go especially during wedding parties. I don’t like dull songs, too when it’s time to give it to them with my dancing steps.
Abi ooo, help me tell them. What's a wedding without good music? 😂😂
