My Unpopular Truth: The Hill I'll Always Defend_Reading Hard Copy Books 📚 over Digital Books
Hello 👋 Hive Naija Community, I'm so happy presenting my entry (view) to this week prompt. It something that really matters to me but people do sees it less to my perspective.
Have you ever in anyway felt like you're the definitely the only one who thinks a certain way from what others think? Well that's me when it do comes to my strongest belief in life. I want to now share with you all today a hill I'm willing to die on – something I truly believe deeply even though many of our people disagree. I know we all have these kind of special opinions that truly make us who we are. They always come from our experiences, our thinking, and as well sometimes from the lessons life has taught us the hard way.
My Hill: Real Books Over Digital Reading |
---|
My so unpopular opinion that I'll always defend anytime is just simple: physical books are significantly better than the e-books or audiobooks, and I truly believe we lose something so important when we only read digitally. But I'm not neglecting digital books in total.
- I know that this might somehow sounds as old-fashioned in our digital world. Many people now love the convenience of simply carrying thousands of books on one small device. They do enjoy how the e-books save the space and how the audiobooks let them "read" while also driving or doing chores. But I strongly stand firmly in my own belief that something so magical happens when you hold a real book in your hands.
My Experience With Real Books |
---|
I can remember very well getting my first library card when I was just little (about seven years old). The librarian then handed me that small piece of plastic, and suddenly, I now had my access to thousands of adventures waiting on the shelves. I would run my fingers all along the spines, pull out books that really looked interesting, and then flip through the pages to see if indeed they might become my next favorite story to read
- Each time when I read a physical book, I always notice how my brain 🧠 do remembers exactly where on the page I read something important. I can really think, "That very amazing quote was on a left page, near the bottom," and I'll flip right to it. But With e-books and audio, everything always blends together on the same screen.
My Less Preferable

I've collected many books my whole life, and so each one holds an amazing memories. The soup stain on page 43 of my favorite novel {"Chike And The River"} reminds me of that very rainy Saturday when I couldn't put it down. The slim slightly wrinkled pages of my dear childhood fairy tales shows how many times my tiny hands turned them. But the Digital books can't capture these personal touches from my view.
Why I'll Always Defend This Hill |
---|
I believe that children most especially needs the physical books. When I did watch how my young nieces and nephews interact together with real books – running their fingers across words as they read, trying well in gasping at the colorful illustrations that spread across two full pages. I see them all engaging with the stories differently than when people swipe on tablets when reading.
My Most Preferable Reading Material

- Research also supports my hill too. Studies have shows that we often remember things more from the physical books than the digital ones. The amazing weight of the book, the sounds of the turning pages, and even the smell of the papers. All these sensations always help to anchor memories of what we read.
Standing Firm While Respecting Others |
---|
Even though I'll always defend physical books forever, I still respect that others prefer the different ways of reading too. Even myself try something new and so I don't judge my friends who love their e-readers or love listening to audiobooks during their commutes. The different reading styles all work for different people and as well the situations.
- What I'll love to do is plead and ask that we don't let the physical books disappear completely. I always worry that as the libraries reduce their physical collections and the bookstores close, we're eventually losing something precious that the future generations might never experience again.
Conclusion
My hill in defending physical books in a digital age might really seem small compared to the bigger world issues. But I also believe that how we read do shapes how we think and also remember(retention). I'll always champion the real books anytime with their unique smells, the sounds, and the feelings that truly connect us to the stories in ways screens simply cannot do.
- So add that What hill are you willing to die on? What belief do you really hold that goes against a popular opinion? So whatever it is, always be proud of thinking differently and most importantly it's positive. Because sometimes the person with the unpopular view do turns out to be the one who truly sees something others have all missed.
"Thanks for Reading"
I'm with you on this. Nothing beats reading a physical book. Flipping through the pages of the book, touching the words as you read, and even marking some important quotes or words, won't be possible with digital book.
The only thing that can make me go for audio book or digital book is when I can't get that particular book in hard copy.
I enjoyed reading your submission on the question.

YOU DO DRIVE SOME SOLID POINTS. REVISITING A PARTICULAR PAGE THAT CONTAINED SOMETHING OF INTEREST TO YOU WHEN READING A BOOK IS EASILY ACHIEVED WITH A PHYSICAL BOOK UNLIKE THE DIGITAL BOOK OR EBOOK. I THINK IT'S A HILL WORTH DYING ON TOP, LOL
Wow, theres just the need for me to agree with your "unpopular opinion", its compelling. Kudos to you for standing firm and encouraging others to appreciate the value of physical books.
but, do you have a different view/perspective on audiokbooks, what's your take on it?
Thanks for sharing though.

I like reading directly from a book too instead of soft copy but I find myself reading soft these days because of time and availability.
