The two primary perspectives concerning philosophy of education are Essentialism and Perennialism. Essentialism emphasizes the importance of teaching a core set of essential skills and knowledge that are vital for all students, preparing them to be productive members of society. Perennialism advocates for teaching universal truths that have everlasting importance, focusing on concepts and books that have stood the test of time. These perspectives influence how education is structured, delivered, and perceived, shaping the educational experience and outcomes.

The two primary perspectives are captured by Tertullian's distinction between Jerusalem and Athens, representing respectively an education that is based on God's existence and his revelation and an education that is based on man as the ultimate criterion.

The dilemma of education based on Val Til research is that there is no neutral ground, it's either God centered or Man centered we can only choose one because trying to mix these two leads to confusion and falsehood. But He concludes this paper in presenting the Reformed view of education, which he believes is the only alternative that provides the solution to this dilemma of education.

Yes, denial of the neutral ground is one of CVT's core tenets in his philosophy of education. However, the dilemma is the relationship between one and many, unity and diversity. In simple terms, philosophers throughout history have struggled to explain the relationship between the existence of the many things we see around us and what they call the "one."
