My Portfolio Beyond Hive: SOL

In recent weeks I talked about Ethereum and BNB, the two main assets I hold after HIVE.

Today it’s time to talk about the third one, namely SOL.

SOL wouldn’t actually rank third by value, since I hold slightly more BTC, but while I don’t currently have any active accumulation plan for BTC (unfortunately), with SOL I do hold a liquid staked form, JupSOL, which generates some interest and helps me slowly—veeeeeery slowly—grow the amount of SOL I own over time.

SOL also differs from ETH, BNB, and BTC for another reason: given its lower price (compared to the others), it’s the only one of the four tokens of which I already own a full unit.

My Solana portfolio is in fact worth more than 1 SOL, which means this is the first token with which I’ve reached that goal, allowing me to set a more ambitious one—owning 10 SOL—which will probably never happen with a 10% annual yield… but it’s nice to dream! 🤣

SOL

The reason SOL is part of my portfolio is mainly tied to play2earn games: when I was looking for other titles like Splinterlands, and at a time when every project was promising huge airdrops, Solana stood out as one of the most active chains from that point of view, with several games/projects live and potential airdrops.

So I created a wallet, tried (unsuccessfully) to take part in a few airdrops, and then, having meanwhile discovered that Solana actually offers very competitive fees, I kept using it, gradually adding small amounts of SOL.

I’ve never been interested in meme tokens, though, despite Solana being famous mainly for those.

Instead, I’ve tried using platforms like Save first, and Jupiter later, to earn something through lending.

On this point, my experience so far has been mixed: on Jupiter I apparently earn an APR of around 10%, but after several months I have the impression that the value of my portfolio hasn’t really grown—certainly not by the 4–5% I should have accumulated by now.

Of course, the ongoing decline in market values doesn’t help me draw a clear conclusion, but the feeling that something isn’t working quite as it should is there.

That said, for now I have other things to focus on, so my JupSOL will stay where they are: in a few more months it will become clear whether I’m actually earning the advertised returns or not, and in the latter case I’ll reassess my strategy.

It’s true that reaching 10 SOL is more of a small dream than anything else, but if I don’t even get that advertised 10% APR… well, then it really would be impossible to even hope to get there!

Have you looked at JLP ?, I don't know how it compares to JupSol, but it is also an accruing token and tends to fall less when Sol falls, but rise less when it rises, it may be worth having a look at the JLP chart in Sol (not USD), it's steadily up and to the right relative to SOL over time, so as a means of accumulating SOL I like it.

Currently I have my JLP in a LP on Orca, paired with USDC in a $4.10-$5.00 range, my logic being that this is a "fairly" wide range and should stay fee earning for a while, if JLP falls I DCA into more over time and if it rises I end up with 100% USDC, not ideal, but not the end of the world, I'll just buy JPL with the USDC close to the upper limit. I lose out a bit compared to just holding JLP, but I'm hoping the range holds long enough to accumulate some JLP and USDC in fees. So far so good, been in range for a few weeks now

The 24hr yield is pretty low given the wide(ish) range, but today I'm getting 0.123%/24hrs, although that can vary and is often below 0.1%

I gave it a look some times ago, but never really took the time to understand it a bit better (how it works, waht's the supply, if it's still being distributed, etc). I just checked and its graphs, compared to SOL, looks really good! I might start to by a bit of it and use it as an alternative way to accumulate SOL (as you suggested!).

As for LPs, I'm still looking for an auto-balancer feature or something like that 🤣 I hate the idea to have my position out-of-range if I forget to check it from time to time !LOL

The LP's on Bluefin (Sui) have an auto balancer feature for some pools, I tried it, but I found that often I'd rather just wait for the price to come back into range than take the impermanent loss that rebalancing often brings. I felt the more frequent rebalancing outweighed the time out of range if the chart was more or less bouncing along ( but maybe my range was too tight). The APR % is higher if you enter manually too.

In truth, I've not come out ahead with LP's overall

JLP is a composite token, it holds BTC,ETH,SOL ( and something else I think), so it kinda smooth's out the bumps as generally BTC does not move as much as SOL in either direction

So even auto-rebalancing is not enough to let it go a bit more passively? That's a shame...

In truth, I've not come out ahead with LP's overall

Yeah, I feel they are not for me, besides those on Hive-Engine where I can farm very high APR without having to check (almost) anything.

JLP is a composite token, it holds BTC,ETH,SOL

Cool, didn't know it! I'll dig a bit deeper into it to see if it fits my strategy :) thanks!

!PIZZA !LOL
