The Coffee Shop
After a long drive and we decided to visit the popular café at the edge of the town. It was one of those old town cafés that carried a vintage vibe. Nothing fancy, just wooden tables and chairs but it still gives off such good energy. At first, the set up could make you wonder what made this place so popular. Some old photos on the wall, a wooden floor that creaked with every step.
Yet, regardless of it’s simple aesthetics, the café was very neat and beautiful. You could tell that the place was well managed and cared for. What drew us in was the strong smell of coffee and freshly baked pastries. It was the kind of place that immediately made you feel welcome, at peace and somehow lighter.
We found a seat at one of the tables as the waitress came over to take our orders. She was kind and had a genuine smile on her face. She was so easy to talk and it made the shop feel more comfortable. In that moment, I couldn’t help but wish I could stay there forever. It felt like the perfect place to think, breathe and stay away from life’s problems.
I turned to see my friend, Lucy, staring blankly at the birds outside the window. She looked calm and content, I could tell this place had the same effect on her as it did on me. We sat in a comfortable silence, sipping our coffee, and staring at the chirping birds. We both had thoughts running through our minds, but the café served as a kind of relief, an escape where the weight of our worries didn’t feel so heavy.
This is how we chose to spend our holiday, a long drive to a different town, have some time away to think and forget our problems for a while. And sitting there, in that café, I’m knew we made the right decision.
People came and went as the day moved along, and soon it was time for us to leave too. After taking our coffee, we stepped out drove back into town. We left back to town feeling more relaxed and better. We chatted all through the ride, laughter filling the car in a way it hadn’t for a while.
Sometimes, what we need isn’t a big trip abroad or an expensive getaway. Sometimes all it takes is a quiet coffee shop at the edge of a small town, a place to sit, breathe and reorganize our thoughts.
