Redeeming Love: A rollercoaster of Emotions (A Review)

Today I decided to do a bit of love and scriptures. It seems most of the movies I write a review on are mostly not recent movies. I think they’re lot of good movies out there that I haven’t seen and I don’t exactly have the time to see every single movie that comes out, so in my free time I look for a good one that fits my mood.

I’ve seen some trailers of this movie for a while now, I really don’t know why it took me this long to watch but I most certainly did not regret watching it.

Redeeming Love (2022)

This movie drew inspiration from the story of Hosea in the Bible. I wanted to see it because I was curious to see how they’ll manage to balance a bible story and romance together.
It was a mix of different emotions, Love, betrayal, forgiveness, and Faith. This one will make you think a lot about love and life, I kept putting myself in their shoes as the movie went.

The movie was about a young girl, Angel, she grew up in the worst possible situation. She lost her mom at quite a young age which led to her giving up on her faith. Afterwards she was abused and forced into prostitution. She was a prostitute that had no dream or care in the world. She felt this was all life had to offer and she doesn’t mind taking it.

And a young man named Micheal Hosea. Micheal was a successful farmer who was trusting God for a wife. The moment he saw Angel, he believed she was his wife, regardless of her reputation as the most sort after prostitute in town. From there, he pursues her persistently.
She turned him down and pushed him away severeally because she believed she wasn’t ready for that kind of devotion and was unworthy of love.

The patience and calmness Micheal had in pursuing Angel has to be studied. No matter how many times she pushed him away, insulted him or runs away, he was always going back. Always ready to forgive and move on. So unwillingto give up. It easy to look at him and say, “He’s stupid.” But the idea was to portray God’s patient and persistent love towards us.

It spoke to me in many ways. We’re living in a reality where love seems unreal and the idea of sacrificing for someone you care about is crazy. It gave me a lot to reflect on.

Angel went through a lot, you look at such situations and wonder, “how can one comeback from this?” I don’t think a therapist would’ve done the job. God saw what she needed and sent Perfect Love her way.

Emotional, Loving, sweet and all… Micheal’s character was too good to be true. I don’t know if it’s possible to find someone like Micheal in reality. I mean, a lot of times I was pissed for him, I had enough. I wanted to help him quit that crazy relationship. I remember after watching for a while, I paused the movie and walked around for a bit trying to gather my thoughts.

I learnt something though. Being overly emotional can sometimes lead to making foolish decisions. Like Angel, because she felt Micheal was too good for her, she went back to prostitution and got herself into a worse situation.

Angel was holding on to her past a little bit too much. You can’t keep blaming every mistake on the past. Honestly, the back and forth was a bit much and if you’re not patient, you might just quit watching.

If you’re looking for the typical romantic movie, I’ll advice you skip this one. But if you want something challenging, then give it a try. Redeeming love was a really good watch even though it was annoying.

But then what’s a good movie if it doesn’t make you question your sanity? Lol
