Harnessing Willpower

Willpower is that force that keeps you pushing even when they’re reasons not to. It’s not about being super strong or never feeling lazy. It’s about your ability to listen to that inner voice that pushes you when things get hard.

I like to see willpower as your faith. The more you use it the more stronger it gets. People with a strong will power can’t be bent. They can’t be forced into anything or any situation. Willpower is the ability to make a decision and stand on it.

It’s easy to mistake will power for motivation.

Motivation is the feeling that gets you started. That excitement you feel when you set a new goal.

Willpower is the discipline that keeps you going when the excitement fades.

If you rely on motivation, you’ll quit the moment things get hard. Will power is what makes you continue pushing even when the excitement is gone.

I’ve seen people start businesses with amazing ideas, full of new hope and excitement. But when others didn’t buy into those ideas the way they imagined, the excitement quickly disappeared. What keeps you from quitting in such moments isn’t motivation but willpower.

It takes will power to not give up. It takes willpower to stay consistent. And it’s this consistency that makes your experience eventually meet your expectations.

To me, It’s absolute indiscipline to always doubt your decisions, or be easily swayed by the words of others.
I don’t see the point of being an adult and not being able to make decide for your self, or say a big, hard “NO” when the situation demands it.

Timidity is not humility, but the two are often mistaken for each other. The truth is, people don’t always have to be happy with you or approve of your decisions. And most times, the people who helping you make choices are not there to face the consequences with you afterwards.

Harness your willpower
There’s no point in constantly seeking validation from others. I’m not saying mentorship is bad, but designing your life solely on the words of another human being is unhealthy.

Experience has taught me that there is no such thing as a set standard for ife. The so called “standards” people talk about were created by humans just like others. So why not create your own standard? Why let someone else’s ideas define what is possible for you?

Your will power is what ensures you make decisions and stand on them. Decline unsolicited advice when it comes against your beliefs. Say “No” when necessary.

It is willpower that helps you make protect your self worth and prestige even when others don’t believe in you.

At the end of the day, willpower is your strength. It’s what separates people who live on their own terms from people who bend at every little pressure. It’s not about being stubborn, it’s about being steady. It’s about knowing what you stand for and refusing to let temporary emotions or outside opinions push you off track.

Build your willpower like you build your faith. Train it, test it and use it. Because once you have it, nobody can take it from you.

This piece is truly enlightening, it helped me better understand the difference between willpower and motivation. Motivation is important; it’s often the reason we’re able to start in the first place. But its energy alone isn’t enough to sustain us when things begin to go sideways or when weariness sets in. What keeps us moving forward is the discipline that comes from willpower.

There’s also a clear difference between timidity and humility, which people often misunderstand. Being humble doesn’t mean being timid, the two are very different. Humility is strength under control, while timidity is fear holding you back.
