Leaving School? Here’s the Advice I Wish Someone Gave Me Early
It's really worth it to write about this topic because of the future of our countries and society about the future of educational benefits for students and graduates.
Finishing school is a big deal to large percentage of people Whether it's high school or university, that moment you walk out of the gates for the last time feels like freedom. But soon after, reality hits cos you face life,so what’s next?
If you’re someone leaving school today, here’s my honest advice:
Don’t wait for the perfect job go and learn a skill that pays. Especially tech skills.
When I left school, I thought a certificate would be enough. I believed someone would hand me a job because I had a degree certificate of good grades. I was wrong.
The truth is, the world is moving fast. And those who succeed now are not always the ones with the best grades, thats was the truth, but the ones with useful, in-demand skills.
Skills That Can Set You Free
Here are some of the top tech-related skills young people should learn today:
Coding and web design, build websites, apps, or work as a freelancer online.
Digital marketing every business needs online visibility.
Graphic design branding, social media, and content are all powered by visuals.
E-commerce learn how to sell products online, even without owning a shop.
Content creation: videos, blogs, reels people earn from sharing value online.
Data skills & AI awareness, data is the new gold, and AI is changing everything.
These skills are not just for “tech people.” They are for anyone who wants to earn, grow, and be independent on its own.
Education Needs to Evolve Too
I honestly feel schools should start adding life-ready skills into the curriculum. Not just theories and memorizing facts. Young people need to learn how to make money, manage time, communicate, and use digital tools. This would reduce unemployment and prepare them for the real world. Their should really be a general course for making money while still learning.
If you’re reading this and just finished school don’t wait. Start learning something useful now. Use free platforms, take a course, start small. The earlier you begin, the faster you will stand on your own.
And remember: Your education doesn’t end at graduation. It just begins.
