The Taste of Tradition in K-Pop Demon Hunters: A Scene That Made Me Hungry and Proud
I watched K-Pop Demon Hunters recently on Netflix, and to be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I just thought it would be another fun animation about idols fighting demons. But I was wrong. There’s more to it than music and monsters this movie showed so much of Korean traditional culture and especially the Korean food, which really caught my heart.
There was one scene I still can’t forget. It was when the group of girls (the K-pop idols who also fight demons) were sitting together in a small traditional Korean house, sharing a big meal. It was such a warm and beautiful moment. They had kimchi, bulgogi, rice cakes, soup, and soju on the table, and the way they ate together like family reminded me how important food is in Korean culture not just for health, but for connection and ethical values.
Even though they were demon hunters with busy lives and battles to fight, they still made time to eat together, the Korean way. Sitting on the floor, using chopsticks, and sharing dishes. That part made me smile. It wasn’t a fight scene or a concert scene but it was peaceful and real. It showed the heart of Korea.
I also loved how the movie didn’t ignore traditional elements. Their outfits during one scene when they were performing a ritual were inspired by hanbok, the traditional Korean dress. The colors, the way the fabric flowed, even the background music had traditional instruments blended into the K-pop beat. It was cool to see old and new come together like that.
Watching this movie made me think deeper about Korean culture. I’ve always loved K-pop and Korean dramas, but K-Pop Demon Hunters reminded me that the culture is more than just what’s trending. There’s a rich history behind the fashion, the language, the food, and even the way people sit and eat together.
Now, I feel more interested in learning about Korean traditions, especially the food part. I want to try making tteokbokki or learn the right way to eat at a Korean table. This movie made me feel proud for enjoying K-content not just for entertainment, but for the culture it brings with it.
If you haven’t watched K-Pop Demon Hunters yet, I really recommend it. You’ll get action, music, laughs but you’ll also get a small taste of Korea’s beautiful tradition and food.
