My Goals: Sliding Back

I definitely knew I was sliding back in the achievement of my numerous goals. It was a new year and I had just made new year resolutions about developing and bettering my life. I planned to follow through. I even imagined how my life would look at the end of the year when I would be taking stock.
As usual I would begin to work on the resolutions with gusto and zeal. But after a couple of months I would give up entirely. This was not because I wasn't seeing results. I was, infact. Though they were not very significant results. Year after year that was the same story. I would start the year well, working with great eagerness on my goals but before the year reached it's middle I would have slid back and stopped altogether.
One of the reasons this happened was because I suffered the plague of procrastination. I would start on my goals but at a certain point I would feel overwhelmed with a lot and stop altogether or only attend to the goals intermittently.
“The 1% rule is unrealistic.” Somebody I was chatting with online told me.
“I believe it's possible” I said.
Sincerely I believed implementing the 1% rule would help me break the spell of procrastination. I first heard about the rule from the writer of the book Atomic Habits, James Clear. I read it in his book and I also watched his YouTube videos. The 1% rule says that instead of working to achieve big great results that one should strive for little results which over time would compound into something incredible.
I also heard about this rule from the personal development specialist, Jim Rohn. He said taking on a lot at a time can make you feel overwhelmed so that you stop. But taking it little a time will help you feel in control and those little efforts will yield great results over time.

Well, since I came across this rule I've been practicing it like a religion and it's helping me massively in the achievement of my goals. I take it one a time but I make sure each day, I do something, even if little, that takes me closer to the achievement of my goals.
I guess maybe the reason I felt overwhelmed at first with my goals and slid back from pursuing them after sometime, is because they are really ambitious goals. I have learnt to break them up into smaller, achievable goals. It helps me stay in control and stay motivated.
"Your goals are really ambitious. How are you going to achieve them?"
A friend asked me at one point in time.
"I believe I'm able to achieve them, that i have what it takes." Was my reply.
"Sincerely I dont think one person is capable of achieving that much."
"I think of myself as a polymath and excellent multitasker. So I believe its possible."
"Well, good luck."
So the 1% rule have helped me immensely in keeping up with my goals. The way I view time, each moment we spend not deliberately doing something that can better our lives we are wasting a lot. A lot of people are keen not to waste food, or misspend money, but few are mindful of not wasting time. Yet, time is our most precious resource. This is one of the things the 1% rule taught me.
It doesn't mean that currently I don't slide back from my goals, to be sincere I still do. But it's much more lesser than before I read James Clear's book and listened to Jim Rohn tapes. I'm gradually winning the battle against procrastination and taking back control of my life.

2025 has been going quite well for me as far as my goals are concerned. I'm getting things done. There have been times I slid back from working on my goals this year but I'm mostly working at them day by day. I hope to be happy at the end of the year when I review my goals...

Lovely story. Rome was not built in a day. Just little by little you will get there.
