4 January 2025, @mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2607: carpet of crushed bugs

Celestrian clicked his mandibles, in a soothing tone to calm the beetle, as it strained at the traces.
The barbarians, strange painted ants became to swarm towards the lines of the Legion, where Celestrian and the charioteers awaited the signal to advance.
Celestrian held the banner of the Rampant Hornet close to his thorax - the chariots of the Emperor's Own equestriate would follow him to glory. Finally, the horns sounded and Celestrian lashed at the beetle with a spikey whip. Charging forward dozens of chariots to his left and right - the banner flared in the wind.
The chariots met the ants on the rocky field rolling over them and crushing them leaving a sorrowful carpet of crushed bugs. The enemy turned and fled in panic.

Intrigued I read through the site, including notes and suggestions for participants. I sat down for about 20 minutes and I considered what I would write. Then I set up my laptop for writing - opting for a vanilla notepad, and a timer as shown below. Five minutes went by quickly - and I felt like I barely had started writing before the timer hit zero. Alas. I had pictured a scene of epic battle as a Roman-style Legion of ants, battled some barbarian tribe of Pitctish-ants.
The exercise was an absolute joy, despite a somewhat unimpressive word count. I did correct a typographical error - but otherwise resigned myself not to make any edits.

It's pretty good for a first freewrite! I like to not think at all before I begin, just set the timer and start typing. Sometimes astounding things come out of my brain.
Keep it up! It's a joy to freewrite for me and many others. Welcome.
