Here we are with another world in Spanish. Now we have road. So, today let's see the word 'Road'. Do you know how we say 'Road' in Spanish?
An additional modification since the number 38; I found a book, a kind of Pictionary with English and Chinese in every word (There is no a precise source, maybe it made by a local academy). Then I will follow it and add the Spanish corresponding word. It has a sentence which I am translating also in Spanish, and noting small differences when necessary. Then it has a version in English, Chinese and Spanish. After this pictionary I will put the usual description of the word.

“Carretera” está bien elegida, y además tu ejemplo visual funciona porque aterriza la palabra sin dar rodeos. La definición más sólida en español es la de la RAE: “camino público, ancho y espacioso, pavimentado y dispuesto para el tránsito de vehículos”. En inglés, road es el término más general, mientras que highway suele apuntar a una vía principal o de alta capacidad, así que tu contraste entre ambos conceptos tiene jugo didáctico si lo dejas claro con una nota breve de matiz, como muestran inglés.com y SpanishDictionary.
Tu frase “No hay coches en la carretera” suena natural. Si quisieras añadir una microaclaración útil para estudiantes, podrías decir que carretera no siempre equivale exactamente a street/calle, porque calle suele usarse más dentro de zonas urbanas, mientras carretera sugiere una vía de circulación más amplia o interurbana. Eso le da más precisión al post y evita la típica confusión fastidiosa de principiante.
