Rainbow – Since You Been Gone

avatar

Hello,

My friend @uwelang, a music lover who also likes rock, has created a new tag #RockBest where people talk about their favourite rock songs. This should increase interaction on the platform, especially among music lovers.

I have many favorite songs. One of them is “Since You Been Gone” by Rainbow with Graham Bonnet as the singer. In 1979, Dio had long since left the band and Graham Bonnet had to choose between Sweet and Rainbow. The song appeared on the band's fourth album, Down to Earth. It is also the only album with Graham Bonnet on vocals.

And now to the song: it's actually a cover of Russ Ballard's song “Since You Been Gone”. I'd say it's another cover that's better than the original. I like Rainbow's version because it just lifts the mood.

What is your favourite rock song?

Hallo,

And now the lyrics to Since You Been Gone - Rainbow

I get the same old dreams same time every night
Fall to the ground and I wake up
So I get out of bed, put on my shoes and in my head
Thoughts fly back to the breakup
These four wall are closing in
Look at the fix you put me in
Since you been gone
Since you been gone
I'm out of my head can't take it
Could I be wrong
But since you been gone
You cast your spell so break it
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh
Since you been gone
So in the night I stand beneath the backstreet light
I read the words that you sent to me
I can take the afternoon,
the night time comes around too soon
You can't know what you mean to me
Your poison letter, your telegram
Just goes to show you don't give a damn
Since you been gone
Since you been gone
I'm out of my head can't take it
Could I be wrong
But since you been gone
You cast your spell so break it
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh
Since you been gone
If you will come back
Baby, you know you'll never do wrong
Since you been gone
Since you been gone
I'm out of my head can't take it
Could I be wrong
But since you been gone
You cast your spell so break it
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh, oh oh
Ever since you been gone
Since you been gone
Since you been gone
I'm out of my head can't take it
Since you been gone
Since you been gone
I'm out of my head can't take it

I've got good memories of this song ! It was one of the first albums I ever bought, many years ago. I got it pretty much as soon as it was released and was lucky enough to buy the limited edition clear vinyl one. It's still in the loft, but not really playable any more (an ex-girlfriend borrowed it and played it to death.... )

As for my favourite rock number, that varies depending on my mood. But I think BOC's "Veteran of the Psychic Wars" (the live version) is probably top, with Deep Fix's "Dude's Dream/Rolling in the Ruins" a strong competitor although it's arguable it's closer to Prog than Rock.
