Digimon Survive [Let's Play] - 05 - Humans and Digimon

The party discusses where they are and how to get back to their original world. In meantime, Saki, Shuuji and the professor are fighting for this life in the forest.

Digimon Survive is a Digimon Visual Novel with Turn-based strategy battles. The game follows a group of children who find themselves in another world, and their desperate attempts to find a way back home. The children find themselves involved with monsters, both as partners and enemies.

This is the darkest piece of Digimon media I ever consumed, and Cybersleuth had pretty dark stuff too. Digimon Survive fuses the concept of Digital Monsters with Japanese folklore. It's amazing how the idea of "child sacrifice" integrates seamlessly with Digimon lore. The specific Digimon they choose for this game enhance this theme.

Digimon Survive is the closest modern entry to the old school Digimon anime vibes. Though, more than the earlier Digimon anime series, the game reminds me more of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor series. In that series too, characters may die depending on your actions.

05 - Humans and Digimon

This a relatively calm session. Takuma and his friends along with their Digimon partners discuss what to do next. They also get introduced to Haru and Miyuki because until then, only Takuma knew about them.

I didn't do a Free Battle this session, and the visual novel section was relatively slow compared to the previous videos. Still worth watching/playing if you're interested in the game, though...
