The lies

How's that my business? Do your job or I will deduct it from your salary.

That's the response of most employers to employees in my country, and this has led many to lose their joy, while others have to put up with some lies as an excuse to regain peace of mind and give themselves some personal attention.

My experience

There was this heartless man I worked for over five years, just a few days after I joined the company I realized that staff lie a lot. I was wondering why, when I asked they told me that that's the only way they can have time off for themselves, and I was just wondering why they won't tell him the truth until it was my own turn.

A friend of mine was wedding and I needed to be present at the wedding so I went to tell my boss three weeks before the wedding date and he said no problem, few days to the wedding I went to remind him and his response got me freezed, He denied that I never told him about it earlier and besides how do I expect him to allow me attend wedding ceremony when no one died.

I couldn't hold my tears because I had made clothes and spent lots of money on the wedding, I cried and begged my Boss but he sent me out of his office.

I was so sad all day I don't even need someone to explain more when many of my coworkers will wake up and send emails with doctors' reports when nothing is wrong with them, that was too hard for me.

One and only lie to get approval

A few months later I had a very important occasion to attend, and I knew telling him was a waste of time and energy so I kept mute.
Two days before the occasion I went to the hospital and got a doctor's report, then I sent an email reporting that I was very sick, and he granted me three days holiday to rest, and that was enough for me to attend the occasion.
When I came back I wasn't comfortable because I was scared that he might find out that I lied, 😞 even when he called to ask me how I was feeling my voice was shaking 🫨 but I had to just act up.

A few months later was my sister's wedding so I wasn't comfortable lying again, I decided to tell him, and if he refuses I will quit the job because I can't continue deliberating lying with my health when I am very much healthy.

I wasn't surprised when he refused, after a few days I tendered my resignation letter, when he saw it he told me that it's very easy to replace me but it would be difficult for me to get a Job, I said, I left for my sister's wedding and got a job a few months later which had some days off in the week that enabled me to have rest and attend to personal needs.

I couldn't really explain how I felt about the lies I had to put on but I am certain that I wasn't comfortable with it and I couldn't continue in such a manner so I had to quit and get a job that would give me peace of mind.
