What I Feel The Parenting Pool Is Like.
After listening to some kids around me talk to their friends, a lot of questions rolled in my mind. What kind of parent am I going to be? What kind of kid do I want to raise? And most importantly, are the Gen-Z parents doing enough?
I was making my hair at the stylist’s shop when the kids beside her shop were talking. A girl of barely twelve year old now has a boyfriend and was hinting her friend about the conversation they have been having lately including the guy who likes her.
Above all, I realized from their conversation that she has a phone.
I’ve always noticed that phones cause more distraction to kids. My little brother who’s currently writing his WAEC examination pressed his phone too much even instead of reading and we had to seize his phone for him to get serious.
What do you think he does on his phone? Games! He plays games a lot and if he’s not playing games, he may be busy chatting with his peers and to crown it all, he has a girlfriend. A kid!!! I wonder why kids of these days are not even scared of their parents.
When I was in high school, I didn’t have a phone and the way I could talk to my friends was only going to school. I dare not go to a friends house.
Secondly, I was so scared of my parents that I dare not fail my examinations, sneak out of the house nor even bring friends to the house. That’s how strict my parents can be.
Comparing to these days, kids do not even care. Whatever happens to them, they can be very brave and confident to say it to their parents. They go out and get home late at night. Some even have boyfriends who got them gifts and their parents never dare to ask where they got those gifts from. If it was my mum, she’s definitely going to ask.
And now, this is making me really scared to be a parent. How will I train my child? Will he or she listen to me? It’s really scary. I know the relationship pool is scary and risky but I feel the parenting pool is more scary.
I just hope that I do my parenting right and I train my parents in the ways of the Lord. I’m going to give it all my best but how about you?

Many Gen Z parents are really bad at their duty as parents, they just allow kids do as they like.
I just hope that when it gets to my turn, I do well as a parent
