The Unexpected Price Of Goods.
I remember the moment when I raised up my hands amidst every other person who was present at the meeting when one of our friends threw the question, “Who can help us get some of the things we’d be needing for Adunni’s bridal shower?”.
I didn’t raise up my hand because I wanted to take their money but I did that because I’m familiar with Eko market where we can buy materials for the bridal shower. Also, I can be very choosy and I wanted to make sure that I buy what I like and I get the best material for everyone.
I was asked to make inquiry about the prices of all the kits which I did almost immediately.
Adunni was happy when she heard I will be the one to buy bridal materials for she, the bride and every of our friends who will be a part of the bridal shower. Since I will be the one to buy the kits, my friends trusted me and some of them who needed a few things at the Eko market gave me some money to help them buy those stuffs.
I was supposed to go on a Thursday morning but I woke up on that day and didn’t feel like doing anything. I didn’t want to step out of the house also so I just slept again. My friends started calling me one after the other to know if I have gone to the market. They even did well to give me the transport fare so I won’t have to deduct it from my account.
“Hey babes. How’s the market struggle and I’m sorry for stressing you out. I just thought of texting you after I called you and you weren’t picking,” I got this text which woke me up after I went back to sleep. It was Adunni. I didn’t want to lie to her and if I tell her that I wasn’t at the market, she will feel bad so I just sent a love emoji to her without saying anything.
Her bridal shower is in ten days and I was still not bothered about the kits they asked me to buy. I procrastinated everyday of my life even though my friends had trusted me that I bought those kits already.
Days went by and the bridal shower was getting closer everyday. It got to a point when I was left with no choice than to go get the kits at Eko market.
When I got to the market, it was something different from what I was expecting to meet. Things were very expensive.
“Madam, I came here just eleven days ago and these kits were still cheap. So, how come the prices are now very expensive? The price differences are too much,” I said to the woman in charge of the business.
“You know things get expensive everyday and we can’t predict what the next price may be,” she said to me. I didn’t have any choice than to buy all the kits. Also, I could not call my friends to tell them about it. Adunni and my other friends were going to feel disappointed if I called to tell them what was going on.
When the market woman was done calculating my bills, the total balance was twenty dollars higher than the previous total balance. I didn’t even have enough money in the account so I could not pay.
Immediately, I called my boyfriend so that he can lend me some money but when I called, this was what I got from him.
“I told you earlier to go get those kits but you refused. Now, the price has gone up and you’re looking for someone to give you money. I don’t have any money to give to you so you should sort it yourself,” he told me that.
That was when I knew I was in trouble. I had to take a loan from a loan application so I could sort the bills. I left the market on a sad mood. The market woman looked into my face while she was packing my goods and guessed something was wrong.
“Sister, are you okay? Do you need anything?,” she asked me. I didn’t want to say a word because I may even cry. I shook my head meaning there was nothing wrong with me.
Throughout that day, I felt sad. The phrase a stitch in time saves nine was the perfect phrase for myself on that day. I felt disappointed throughout that day. Till now, I didn’t tell any of my friends what happened at the market but made sure that I do my things at the right time and never procrastinate.
An interesting story indeed😊😊
Awww so sorry about your experience dear. With the rate at which the inflation is going my dear once you have the money to buy anything buy at once. Quite unfortunate you had to learn from experience, better luck next time dear.
