The Noise Of The Klaxon.

It was almost lunch time at school. Every pupil was excited about the food of the day. It was Fried Rice, every kids dream meal. Miss Basira, the new assistant class teacher who was opportune to teach in a big school like Hope Academy walked round the school, admiring the beautiful decorations on the wall while making several TikTok videos which isn’t allowed by the school authority.

All of a sudden, a klaxon from nowhere made a loud noise. Out of cowardice, Miss Basira jumped the staircase and ran fast into the class trying to keep herself safe. As she ran into the class, the school’s superintendent officer was there with the class teacher prompting all the teachers to take the pupils to the assembly ground.

Everyone, there is fire. Let’s fall out to the assembly ground now. Form a straight line quick and let’s head to the assembly ground, Miss Basira became very scared. It’s said that there was fire but she doesn’t even know where the fire was coming from and that became the most scary thing.

Out of fear, she ran out of the classroom leaving behind the class teacher and the pupils to sort themselves. As she stepped out, she met so many teachers in a haste to guide their pupils to the assembly ground but as for Miss Basira, she ran around the entire school building and didn’t sight any flame or the littlest form of fire.

But, something was weird. While Miss Basira was busy running in the entire school looking for the source of fire or what part of the school was getting burnt, other teachers were smiling even though they rushed to take their pupils to the assembly ground. Even the pupils were laughing at Miss Basira. Since she heard the sound of the klaxon, she started to shake like a leaf and trembling with fear.

Miss Basira, you need to take it easy. Why are you trembling this much? Whereas, we’re meant to go to the assembly ground but you’re not walking towards there, Madam Onojo noticed how scared Miss Basira was. So, she held her hands so that the fear of fire doesn’t paralyze her.

On getting to the assembly ground, there were about five firefighters on the assembly stage. With them, they had their pumps, fire extinguishers and nozzles. Still, Miss Basira only wanted to know where the fire was coming from.

Good afternoon pupils, the head of the fire team greeted the pupils and the senior pupils who have experienced this before greeted calmly. There was no bit of fear in them.

Thank you all for responding swiftly to the fire drill. With me, I have my fire extinguisher and this can be used to put off fire whenever there is a place burning. This is why you need to tell your parents to get one for their car and home, Miss Basira still didn’t understand what was going on.

Could this be a prank or did they put off the fire already? she thought. While explaining, the head of the fire team explained what a fire drill meant and the new and younger pupils were able to learn from it.
At last, everyone went back to the classes for their lunch and resume normal activities.

Miss Basira, why were you trembling in fear? Haven’t you experienced a fire drill before, here, a secret was about to be exposed after the head teacher, Mr. Peter threw the question as Miss Basira.
She couldn’t give a response. Miss Basira began to stutter.

I thought you said you attended one of the biggest high school and university in Nigeria. Just yesterday, you were asked to teach the pupils about a fire drill. What then did you teach them? Mr Peter asked.

Uhm… I’m very sorry sir. I wanted to teach them but I didn’t understand the topic so I taught them something else instead, Mr. Peter was seething with anger already. He was very annoyed. Right away, he dragged her into his office and organized another employment test for Miss Basira to see if she was fit to be a teacher.

Eventually, Miss Basira failed the test. It was then revealed through the CCTV camera that Miss Basira cheated during the first employment examination.
The pupils also testified that Miss Basira doesn’t teach in class and whenever she does, she teaches rubbish.

She liked to make TikTok videos and ask us to help her make the video, the pupils said to Mr. Peter when he went to the class to ask about her performance.

Furiously, Mr. Peter organized a meeting with the board of school directors and concluded on firing Miss Basira so the pupils will get protected from learning the wrong things from her.
There was a memo sent to every parent that Miss Basira was no longer a teacher in Hope schools and they finally sent away the bad egg.
