The Act Of Polluting The Environment.
Pollution is a way of dropping harmful substances into the environment, water or wherever we find ourselves. I feel pollution becomes more rampant daily especially here in Nigeria where people feel they are free to do what they want or like and that’s why the drop wastes on the floor or litter the whole country.
Just last month, a lot of people were arrested in my part of Lagos State for polluting the environment. They dumped refuse by the road and when the government decided to take it up, a lot of people got arrested.
Aside from the fact that it doesn’t make the whole environment look good, how about the smell? Those refuse smell a lot that if we pass by them, we may find it very hard to breathe. The worst part of it is that there are some people living very close to the roadside and in one way or the other, they will get affected by the smell of the refuse.
Arresting offenders would have been the solution but not completely. I still get shocked with the way people go out in the middle of the night to dump refuse and that’s to make us know that arresting people isn’t tye solution because they will still do it.
The best thing is making the refuse dumping team work efficiently. Truly, there is an organization here in Lagos known as PSP but they don’t go to everywhere. To be honest, I have never seen them on my street and the only thing I do is take them to the other streets where they get to.
If they can get to every part of the state, places won’t be littered.
Also, I think people deserve an orientation about how harmful all of these actions are. They are harmful to our sense of smell and most importantly, our health and that’s why we should not engage in them.
Pollution does us no good but makes us unhealthy in the society. It destroys the beauty of the society and makes it look ugly. It’s better to wait for the government method of burning waste instead of polluting the whole environment.
