My New Musical Friend.

I’ve always known that music has a way of bringing people together but I proved it today again after doing that over and over again.
Just this morning, I was sitting pretty at my mum’s shop and felt like listening to music. Well, that’s what I did first today so I just wanted to keep myself in that vibe.

I put on my music speaker and began to jam some Jimmy Cliff’s music. Today, all I wanted to listen to are songs that people around me wouldn’t be familiar with. I know the vicinity where I live and they mostly do more of Nigerian music.

I began the day with “Many Rivers To Cross”. Sometimes when I want to enjoy the day, I do not want to know the meaning of the song. All I’m after is singing along to the song and if it is fun, it’s going to make me happy.
Within three minutes of listening to this song, a guy passed by. I wasn’t really paying attention to him and turned back to talk to me.

“I’ve been trying to download this song since but I never find it on my streaming platform,” he said to me and I was shocked because you can easily find this song on YouTube even though it may not be on other streaming platforms.

“I’m streaming this on YouTube and you can do the same,” I said to him. Even before I was done talking, he already pulled a chair close to him and he said he wanted us to keep listening to music together.

I knew he was a stranger but I love how he loved the kind of music that I like. Since there is someone who is interested in something that I love, I switched the music but I didn’t want any other genre aside from the Brazilian music.

I also went ahead to play Wanted Children by Bunny Wailer. I have always heard my dad sing this song since I was little and that’s how I got interested in the song.
Then, my new friend explained the reason behind this song to me.
He said the song has to do with the Rastafari movement. Then, I checked Google to check what that meant.

If music didn’t bring my new friend and I together, I may be naive when anyone talks about Rastafari movement. I’m so glad that I learned something from him.

To be very honest, I cannot remember how many songs we listened to but out of all, this remains one of the notable songs that we listened to. Also, this is the last song that we listened together to.

And when he was leaving, we exchanged contacts.
“I’ll be sharing you some new songs and tell you the story behind each songs. You may need them someday,” he said to me.
What if my new friend and I have more than a cordial relationship tomorrow?

I think I can boast that music can start a relationship. The relationship may eventually lead to something more beautiful. Today, with the help of music, I met a new friend.
