Causes And Treatments Of Bone Tuberculosis.
Tuberculosis doesn’t only occur in the mouth or throat. It can spread through our body parts and even down to our legs. As part of the kinds of tuberculosis that occurs, skeleton tuberculosis exists in the lives of humans.
Skeleton tuberculosis can be defined as a type of extra pulmonary tuberculosis which affects the skeleton joints and can lead to a bad walking posture, swelling of the skeletal part which is affected, pain, discomfort or not able to walk.
Normally, tuberculosis occurs in the lungs but if not well taken care of, mycobacteria can spread from the lungs to the entire bone or joints through the blood vessels. Well, there is a general knowledge that most people with AIDs suffer from skeletal tuberculosis due to their weak immune system.
The symptoms of bone tuberculosis can occur just like a normal bone ailment but unfortunately, a lot of people have no idea that they are dealing with bone tuberculosis until it gets to a very severe stage. A few symptoms of bone tuberculosis are, soft tissue swelling, spinal deformities, back or joints inflammation and severe back pain.
These are the most common symptoms of bone tuberculosis while there are still more. Would you believe that hunchback is also a result of bone tuberculosis?
Many people still wonder what causes bone tuberculosis but it is known that it originates from a lung infection. Generally, when you have tuberculosis, you tend to cough out blood but when the tuberculosis bacterium spreads from the lungs to the bone, this is when we can say bone tuberculosis will begin to occur. This is usually unknown to people until it gets very severe and breaks them down suddenly.
To diagnose what may be causing your bone inflammation or tuberculosis itself, it’s usually advisable to visit a standard hospital for it. For the diagnosis, a skin or blood test called Mantoux tuberculin skin test should be done for the patient which will aim at discovering bacterium in the body of the patient.
X-Ray imaging is also a good way to diagnose tuberculosis. With the imagery, the doctors will be able to identify if there is a form of inflammation in the bone or any symptom of tuberculosis in the bone. Mostly, it is used to determine the extent of damage that the tuberculosis has done on the bone.
The best way to treat this is through surgery but this is when it gets to a very critical stage. Many times, people are advised to take long term medications for several months which is likely to get rid of the bacteria after many months of usage. After a few weeks of beginning the treatment, there should be positive changes depending on how fast the person’s body responds to treatment.
As part of the medications that people are given, the doctors are likely to prescribe Rifapentine, Rifampin, Isoniazid or others.
We can actually prevent tuberculosis. It is wider and broader than we may think. To prevent tuberculosis, we should cough into our elbow so that we won’t infect other people. Also, we should not come in close contact with other people. We have no idea of the kind of ailment people are battling with so it is better not to have close contact with them.
Bone tuberculosis is real and have gotten so many people paralyzed so we should prevent having contact with people because we can’t tell who may have it and for those who have it, they should take their medications well and focus on getting better.
