Our friend @joanstewart brings us a very interesting topic this week.

I'm a millennial, so you could say I've seen almost all the new technological generations come and go. In fact, when I talk to my stepchildren and they ask me if I know this or that, they're surprised when I say yes, but I've noticed they've given me very few examples of things I don't know.

So they don't understand how it's possible that instead of reading digital books, they prefer physical books, and instead of playing PlayStation all day, they prefer going out with friends or playing soccer.

And that's precisely the point. I was born in an era without many screens, where playing games in the neighborhood, on the sports fields, and at home with board games was the norm.

But I also grew up in an era where we read a lot, went to the theater and the cinema, and shared the world of art firsthand, interacting with it.

I grew up in an era before GPT chat rooms, when we had to study in the library by reading. And that, to a large extent, is what wasn't prepared for, and what has made the difference between scientists of the past and those currently being trained.

And that's precisely what we're doing at home. We're recreating that era. We encourage our children to develop a love of reading, play games, socialize with friends and classmates, and study independently.

Of course, this doesn't mean we're going to reject new technologies. But we simply use them as the useful tools they are.

Because that's all they are: tools to make our work easier.

At home, our children have to keep to their study schedule, completing both schoolwork and chores. After that, they can do whatever they want, as long as it doesn't involve spending all day sitting in front of the computer or with their cell phones in their hands.
Luckily for us, we've done a good job, and we don't have to tell them to go outside or put down their phones. In fact, they often leave the house without their phones, and we have to remind them to take them so we can stay reachable.

We've taught them to use their phones and the internet as tools for studying, learning, discovering new cultures, finding information, and yes, even for playing games, but always in moderation.

Hola, amigas mías.

Nuestra amiga @joanstewart nos trae un tema bien interesante para esta semana.
Yo soy de la generación millennial y por tanto se puede decir que he visto pasar casi todas las nuevas generaciones tecnológicas. De hecho cuando hablo con mis hijastros y ellos me preguntan si conozco esto o aquello se sorprenden cuando les digo que sí pero he visto que son pocas los ejemplos que me han puesto que lo desconozca.
Entonces ellos no entienden cómo es posible que en lugar de estar leyendo libros digitales prefieran los libros en físico Y en lugar de estar jugando el Playstation durante todo el día prefiera salir con amistades o ir más a jugar fútbol.

Y ahí mismo está la cuestión. Yo nací en una época sin muchas pantallas y donde el juego en el barrio en los terrenos deportivos y en las casas con los juegos de mesas era lo habitual.
Pero también crecí en una época donde se leía mucho íbamos al teatro a los cines y compartíamos el mundo del arte en primera persona e interactuamos con él.
Crecí en una época donde no existía el chat gpt y teníamos que estudiar en la biblioteca leyendo. Y eso fue en buena medida lo que no se preparó y lo que ha marcado la diferencia entre los científicos de antes y ahora con los que se están formando.

Y precisamente eso es lo que estamos haciendo en casa. Estamos recreando esta época. Le fomentamos a los niños el hábito de lectura, los juegos la socialización con sus amigos y colegas y el estudio individual.
Por supuesto con eso no queremos decir que vamos a negar de las nuevas tecnologías. Pero solo le damos el uso que llevan como las buenas herramientas que son.
Porque son solo eso herramientas para facilitarnos nuestro trabajo.

En la casa nuestros niños tienen que cumplir con su horario de estudio con las tareas de la escuela y las de la casa luego de esto pueden hacer lo que sea siempre y cuando esto no conlleva a pasarse todo el día sentado frente a la computadora o con el teléfono celular en la mano.
Por suerte para nosotros hemos hecho un buen trabajo y no hay que decirles que salgan o Que suelten el celular. De hecho, en muchas ocasiones salen de la casa sin el teléfono y tenemos que recordarle que se lo lleven para de esta manera poder mantenerse localizables.

Le hemos enseñado a utilizar el teléfono y la internet como lo que son herramientas para estudiar para aprender para conocer nuevas culturas para buscar información y sí también para jugar pero siempre con moderación.
