The Business I Respect but Will Probably Never Do
In this life, there are so many types of businesses people are doing. Some are selling online, some are into tech, fashion, or entertainment. But for me, there’s one business I truly admire from my heart and that’s farming.
Yes, farming may look simple from the outside, but it’s one of the hardest and most underrated businesses out there. I see people men, women, even young people doing full time farming, and every time I just shake my head with respect. Farming is not beans at all.
Imagine waking up early every day, going to the farm under hot sun, planting, weeding, feeding animals, and sometimes dealing with pests or floods. You work so hard, yet the results don’t always come fast. Sometimes you wait 3 to 6 months before harvest. That alone takes patience that I know I don’t have.
I’ve seen people post their farming journey here on Hive, and honestly, I’m always inspired. You can feel their passion and dedication through their words and photos. Some are into crop farming, some raise chickens or catfish. They’re not just farming, they’re doing real business and doing it with pride.
But for me, as much as I respect it, I don’t think I can do it. I once tried planting vegetables at home in small buckets. I was excited at first, but after some weeks, I got tired. I forgot to water them, and before I knew it, the whole thing died. That experience showed me I’m not built for that life. 😂
Farming also needs space, money, tools, time, and plenty energy. And if you’re not careful, one bad season or pest invasion can wipe everything. That fear alone is enough to keep me away. I prefer doing something lighter, maybe online or service based, where I can control more things.
Even though I may never do it myself, I still believe farming is gold. In a country where food prices go up daily, farmers are the real MVPs. They feed the nation and still manage to make profit, even when the system doesn’t favour them. They are strong people.
I might not wear boots and carry hoe, but maybe one day I can invest in farming from behind the scenes. Support a local farm project or partner with someone who’s passionate about it. That way I’m still part of it, without getting my hands dirty. 😅
So to every farmer or agripreneur reading this, I say this from the bottom of my heart well done. You’re doing something powerful. You’re helping people eat, survive, and live. I see you, and I respect you
