RE: General Chaos (Sega Genesis)

I wanted this one back in the day but never got it. By the time I saw it in stores I had already packed the Genesis up for awhile and was questioning if I wanted to drop teh cash on a new game for it at that point (I was saving up to do repairs on my 1976 Ford Pinto with a straight six in it). I remember seeing the advertising and reading the articles in EGM, Gamepro, etc back in the day. While intrigued, I just never pulled the trigger on it.

I do love that at one point in history, EA had a sense of humor. They really let their hair down with some releases on the Sega Genesis such as this and Haunting Starring Polterguy and a few other releases back then. Too bad comedy elements were not continued in gaming as it is definitely a lacking category, even today.

Back when EA was making games for 16-bit systems, it seemed like you could almost always count on them being at least decent. This was another game I didn't really pay attention to at the time. But then I didn't have a Genesis. Exclusive games on the Genesis published by EA, like this one, seem to have been rare.

Yeah, EA on 16-Bit consoles was unique, especially the Genesis. I think it was the familiarity between Sega Genesis and the Commodore Amiga and Atari ST computers. Developers were more familiar with the hardware so porting to Segas console was easier.

I remember the first time I played Starflight, I was enthralled. My brother was stingy with his Genesis though so my playtime was limited. I just enjoyed going around picking up minerals and selling them. I later got a 3DO and Star Control II and enjoyed that immensely as well. Never beat it but man, I had the baddest ship when the timer ran out.
