However, what this really brings to light for me is the fact that people seem to prefer anarchy over order. At the very least they are leaning more towards hedonism these days than anything else.

People love order - for other people. They want to be able to do whatever they want though, and live their best, hedonic selves.

Did the neighbours at least have the courtesy to say "Hey, we're having a party and it might get loud" ?

No, the one guy did invite me over at one point, but they are about ten years younger than me, pretty big MAGA folks, and the one time I did go over there someone dropped the N word and it was all I could do to not get up and leave. The good thing is we thought every weekend was going to be like this when they moved in five years ago or so and that hasn't been the case, so we can't complain too much.
