Poof!

Just like that, the Lions are now out of the playoff race. That's basically what a lot of the headlines I have been seeing say. The fact is, while yes, they are currently out of the running, they still have a chance to fight their way back into contention. The problem is, you have a bunch of other teams that are trying to do the same thing.

I didn't stay up to watch the Lions game on Sunday night. I was pretty tired from having driven back from Ohio where we were celebrating our great nieces first birthday. It was a great time with family, but besides the morning game in Madrid Spain, it didn't give me much opportunity to watch football.

I did happen to catch the Chiefs getting bested by Denver, so that was a good thing, but really, that is the only football I ended up watching on Sunday.

That doesn't mean there weren't some good games on, and now I am going to recap them for you.

On Thursday night New England continued their hot season beating the New York Jets 27 to 14.

Then of course on Sunday morning we had the Commanders/Dolphins game from Madrid. My wife was watching the game with my brother in law and I and she made a comment about how they never get good teams to play in the games overseas. It has felt that way this season, but after a slow and highly defensive first half, things opened up a bit in the second half of the game and Miami ended up winning 16 to 13.

Jacksonville crushed the Chargers 35 to 6, and Pittsburgh had a good day beating the Bengals 34 to 12. Green Bay took down the Giants 27 to 20 and Chicago just squeaked past the Vikings 19 to 17. I think that puts Chicago at the top of the rankings in the NFC North now. It really makes the fact that their head coach was the Lions old offensive coordinator hurt even more now.

Houston beat Tennesee 16 to 13, and Buffalo took down Tampa Bay 44 to 32.

Carolina had a 30 to 27 overtime win against the Falcons, and San Franciso dismantled Arizona 41 to 22. The Rams were able to edge past Seattle 21 to 19, and as I said before, Denver took down Kansas City on an epic last second field goal 22 to 19.

Baltimore beat Cleveland 23 to 16, and the Lions fell to Philly 16 to 9 in what appears to have been an uncharacteristicly sparse game offense wise for the Lions. As I said, I didn't watch the game, but it wouldn't shock me if Goff was worthless in this game. He really isn't my favorite at all...

Finally, last night the Cowboys had a big win over Las Vegas 33 to 16.

That puts Denver and New England at the top of the AFC with nine wins and two losses a piece. Meanwhile, Tennessee still only has one win on the season.

Over in the NFC, The Rams and Philly are tied at the top with New Orleans and The Giants tied at the bottom. It's a rough year to be a New York football fan!
